New Deadly Cancer Identified In Singapore

Scientists in Singapore have discovered a new deadly cancer. For this deadly cancer type, scientists have found an excessive amount of the protein MATK – often found in cancer cells – had appeared in 100 percent of the cells taken from a patient’s tumours of the small intestine.

This deadly cancer often kills patients in months. It is found mainly in Asia, striking around five people per year. Generally, the MATK protein is produced in the cytoplasm on the outskirts of the cell. In this case, the MATK protein was found in the cell nucleus. This form of cancer may be one of the most deadly cancers.

The nucleus is the control centre of the cell. Its function is to maintain the integrity of our genes and to control the activities of the cell by regulating gene expression.

Researchers are excited because if they know the molecular structure of the deadly cancer, they will know what drug to target it regardless of where the cancer is. For more information, click here.
